We are always looking for passionate teachers to join us and run their own book clubs. Read more below about what we look for and if you would like to to be considered, please fill in the form below.

There are many excellent reasons to apply to Book Club Buddies.

1: You get to choose what you teach:

Unlike regular tutoring or working in school, when running a book club you get to choose the book you love and share this with others. You decide on and direct the questions that guide your group. You take ownership, allowing for greater creativity and flexibility. There are no assessments, objectives or curriculum to follow, it’s your experience and qualification as a great teacher that counts!

2: Generous rates:

We look to recruit the best teaching consultants, and we think it’s only fair that our consultancy pay rates should match the standard of high-quality teaching we’re looking for. We invoice the clients and collect payment on your behalf and we pay you by the fast and simple medium of bank transfer.

3: Free of paperwork and worksheets!

We deal with the paperwork relating to running a professional, organised book club so that you can focus on making it memorable and fun. We order the books and deal with sending the packs out to the children. We manage the finances, bookings, contracts, setting up of Zoom calls, emails from parents and all the other behind the scenes work that needs to be completed. Instead, your focus would be on the art of conversation. Using discussions to develop the children’s love of books and a greater literary knowledge.

4: Flexibility with minimal set up costs:

All consultants start by running one book club. This book club can run on a day and at a time that suits you. If this club is successful then you have the opportunity, if you so wish, to run more clubs and greatly increase your earning potential. When you join up to Book Club Buddies there is a small one-off fee. This covers the cost of a personalised ‘Book Club Buddies’ T- shirt, membership to the tutors association, an online NSPCC course ‘Keeping children safe online’(CPD certified), a sample ‘Book Club Buddies’ pack and much more.

5: You can work from home:

You can run your book club from home. All you need is a quiet room, computer and good Wi-Fi connectivity.

6: Helpful advice and support:

Consultants can contact us at any time with queries or to discuss concerns. We will support you with a course on ‘Tips and ideas for running a book club’. We will also help by advertising and promoting your club on your behalf. All our consultants are offered the opportunity to be featured on our website, social media and are provided with a social media marketing pack to support their club.

7: We want you to have fun!

Our aim is to ignite children’s passion in reading. We believe if you are having fun then so are the children. At ‘Book Club Buddies’ we trust our hand-picked consultants to use their incredible teaching skills to guide the book club and support the children to reach their full potential.

Think you've got what it takes to be one of our amazing teaching consultants?

We have an application process and all new teaching consultants are subject to our safer recruitment checks to ensure the safety and well-being of the children you will be interacting with.

Checks consist of:

An ID check, to prove the teacher is who they claim to be and is allowed to undertake self-employed private tuition work in the UK.
A Qualifications check, to prove the teacher has genuinely obtained excellent academic credentials relevant to the subjects they will be tutoring.
A DBS (previously ‘CRB’) check, to ensure there is no criminal background making them unsuitable to work as a private teacher.
A Testimonials check, to get an outside perspective on the teacher’s teaching skills, reliability and personality. Wherever possible we take these testimonials from their previous clients/students, or those who have observed the teacher teaching.
